In my fourth week of interning at Girl Up, I feel like I am truly getting up to speed with the organization.
I have been working on my passion project – collaborating with the Programs team M&E lead to create a survey to assess outcomes of the Leadership Summit. It’s exciting to work on something that will be directly relevant and used later on this summer, which is rewarding – I will get to see the payoff of my efforts later in the summer, after the Summit! I appreciate being trusted with projects that are immediately relevant and put to use. Further, since I am very interested in quantitative and qualitative measurements of social impact, I appreciate letting my own interests shape my internship experience.
I’m also learning more about and contributing to Girl Up’s corporate partnerships. A necessary evil in any nonprofit organization, fundraising for the Summit is done through corporate partnerships and sponsorships. This allows the partners to contribute expertise and funding to areas where they are already focused, and make a genuine and intentional contribution to impacting and instructing girls through the Summit. They get to give back where they are attempting to influence – creating more room for success on their mission! Corporate partners I am working with include a women-run organization in the Web3 space, as well as a women’s sports advocacy organization. These are socially-motivated organizations, and partnering with Girl Up allows them to doubly commit to their social motivations.
